In Other News - Provincial Road & TT Championships
In other news, the Provincial Road and TT champs were this weekend, and a few Segment Challenge riders were racing in Langley, and put on some incredible performances!
Jen Ward won both titles in the Masters A field - in the road race on Saturday, she blasted off a short distance from the finish, and only one other rider stuck to her wheel, and held her off at the line, beating all other riders in the starting bunch. Today she also posted a fantastic time in the Time Trial, and was actually the 5th fastest rider overall, 4th fastest in all of BC, and would have finished 3rd in the Elite field. 💪💪
Katja made a similar maneuver in the U23/Elite road race, taking off about 700m from the finish, but another new Segment Challenge participant, Kimberly Chen, held her wheel and got her on the line! What's especially impressive is that Kimberly is actually a U19 rider, and opted to 'punch up' and rode in the U23/Elite race. Chapeau!!
Katja had her revenge today however, and flamed the course becoming the fastest female TT rider from BC on the day (she was beat by Ngaire Barraclough by about 30 seconds, but being from Alberta, doesn't qualify for the BC championship title.) Kat beat all Elite riders in the TT as well. 🔥🔥🔥
Hopefully Kat can join in for a few more seggies this summer, I suspect she'll be away racing and probably won't be around much in the coming years! 😲🤯
Cross Country Mountain Biking
In the MTB world, this weekend was 'the' selection event for our Olympics XC bids, and sad news for Island riders Emilly Johnston and Carter Woods, as their results came up short. Emilly had an AMAZING XCO (Olympic cross country) U23 race, but Isabella Holmgren from Ontario rode off the front of the group in the first few minutes, and never saw another rider, winning by an incredible 2minutes. Emilly finished 4th (and was as close as 10sec off 3rd), but it was obvious who the top rider was.
In the men's Elite race, Isabella's brother Gunnar Holmgren had the ride of his life, finishing 8th, just over a minute down - and I believe that sealed his position for the Olympics.
So on the bright side we have two solid riders for Cross Country at the Olympics, but sadly they won't be Island riders.

That's It!
Okay, enough from me!
Thank you again for joining us this season, and if you missed it, hope to see you in Season 5!!
Safe and speedy riding all! 🚲
